Just love this...Here's another story you might consider. Around 2003 a woman came down to the compound with two huge dobermans. The barked incessantly at the cats, so Blackie slowly went up to them and nudged ever close until he was no more than an inch away. The dogs went wild, and the Blackie raised himself on his hind legs and with both claws swiped the nosed of both dogs. The last I saw was the woman running after her two dogs yelping down the hill towards Wellington Street. And Blackie? Proud as Mohammed Ali after winning the Thrilla in Mainilla. And to this day, he still goes after dogs...but only the big ones...the small ones he leaves to Bebe. Klaus

Le sanctuaire est situé sur la Colline Parlementaire d'Ottawa au Canada, juste à l'arrière gauche de l'édifice central (celui que l'on voit toujours sur les cartes postales). B)

Remeins me of the time about 5 years ago when Bebe caught a pigeon and dragged it all the way to the compound and into one of the cubicles. Then she sat on it for about 20 minutes before getting bored and walked away. After a few more minutes the pigeon jumped out and flew away.

I remember when Big Mama and Blanchette (Brownie's mother) were still alive how the cats used to play revolving chairs on my lap since only three of them could fit there at a time. Mostly it was Blanchette, Mama and Bebe. Then Brownie would come and shuffle his way in and Blanchette would fall off. Then she would get back on and Mama would fall off. Once Mama got so tired of this she jumped on my head and stayed there. Other times Brownie would just sit across all of them. Mama usually gave him a good swat on the nose when he did this. Klaus

About your question : Yes, the huge cat is Brownie!
The volunteer was probably me (i'm not a mice in real life) and many people ask me why he's so huge. B) Midday in an heat wave is really one of the worst time for seeing the cats. But, like in the comic, did you go near the bushes? Fluffy, Blackie and Liliann-Wentworth are often getting cool here.

Um, I only started reading the blog recently, so I have a question:
In the second picture above, is the huge cat Brownie? I got to met him when my family was in Ottawa in July, and one of the volunteers told me that Brownie was by far the largest cat, because he received the most treats from the volunteers and visitors because he was so nice. Since I was there in July and I was visiting around midday, I got to observe the truth about "Cats in a heat wave" first hand. When we went there the first time, the only cat that we even saw was Brownie, because he was sleeping under a chair near the fence. He barely moved while we were there. Fortunately, we came back the next day at a time when it was cooler, and we got to see more of the cats.
